Is there anything that a child loves more in the world than their favorite stuffed animal? I feel like I’ve spent days of my life combing through the car, searching under beds, retracing my steps at the store, just to make sure that my children always had their best friend close at hand.
And now that I’m all grown up, the warmth and familiarity I get when I hug my favorite teddy bear (yes, I’ve still got one!) never goes away. So whether you’re here to crochet an animal for a loved one, or for yourself, welcome! I know that you’ll find exactly what (or who) you’re looking for in this post!

Crochet Animal Patterns
Fleece Teddy & Bunny
by Stephanie Lau
Let’s begin with a classic pattern from one of my all-time favorite knit and crochet designers. Fleece Teddy and Bunny by Stephanie Lau are about as cute as it gets when it comes to crochet animal patterns.
Fleece Teddy and Bunny are crocheted using special fleece sherpa yarn (2 skeins for teddy and 3 skeins for bunny). The amazing thing about sherpa yarn is that it does a great job of blurring your stitches so you’re left with a soft fabric just perfect for little hands!
Stephanie recommends the Fleece Teddy and Bunny pattern for the experienced crocheters out there because the sherpa yarn makes it difficult to see your stitches which can make the project a tough one for beginners.
If you’re on the hunt for a similar pattern in a smaller size, check out Stephanie Lau’s Boucle Bear and Bunny pattern or check out the Chinese New Year Dog Pattern:
Coco the Rabbit Amigurumi Crochet Pattern
It’s all about Coco! (Well, it should be anyway!) The Coco the Rabbit Amigurumi Crochet Pattern by Elisa Sartori by is beyond cute with its double wrapped cowl and tiny feet.
Coco the Rabbit is made using DK weight yarn and a size H Tunisian Hook, as well as a C2 (2.75mm) crochet hook. Top Coco off with two 6mm black safety eyes and this darling rabbit should measure about 7” x 3.5”.
Elisa recommends yarn colors Linen and Mustard to complete Coco, as well as some black embroidery thread. I love Plymouth Yarn® Cleo in Cream and Solar from Annie’s Craft Store or Lion Brand Re-Up in Ecru and Mango Chutney:

Farm Animals Set

If you haven’t checked out the Flying Dutchman Crochet Design shop, you’re in for a treat. This exceptional designer has an incredible range of crochet patterns available, each one more exquisite than the last.
The Farm Animals Set is sure to delight anyone you make it for and it includes donkey, horse, goat, cow, pony, and pig crochet patterns. You’ll need a size G (4.0mm) crochet hook as well as a tapestry/sewing needle and some fiberfill to complete this intermediate pattern.
The designer recommends a Light Worsted/ DK weight yarn to complete the Farm Animals Set. I love to crochet toys in cotton lines that have a wide range of colors available. Check out Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK (100% Cotton) and Cotlin Yarn by WeCrochet (70% Tanguis Cotton/30% Linen) – both yarn lines come in dozens of colors!

Brian the Penguin
You can’t have a list of animal crochet patterns and NOT include a penguin. I actually think it’s a rule…somewhere…
Anyway, Brian the Penguin by Lex in Stitches is one of the most popular penguin crochet patterns out there right now and it’s easy to see why. First of all it’s FREE! Yes, you read that right. Brian the Penguin is a FREE Download on LoveCrafts.
Second of all, the pattern is listed as suitable for a beginner and it’s an easy way to use up your scrap yarn since it only requires 3 colors (55g in total). Lex in Stitches recommends some yellow yarn for the feet, as well as a cream front color and your choice of color for the body (prefererably in the same brand of yarn).
Lex in Stitches‘ purple penguin was created using MadebyPenguins DK Baby Alpaca Yarn in the colorway “Blackberry”. Scroll down to learn about MadebyPenguins!
MadebyPenguins is a UK-based independent yarn company founded by Lisa-Lou who dyes each hank using a variety of techniques that include painting.

Whale
Calling all bird lovers! Check out these darling toy bird crochet patterns by Ashley Parker, available now at WeCrochet!
Alright, I’ve never been much of a “chicken person” but I have to confess that I NEED to make Sir Clucksalot IMMEDIATELY! From his red comb to his large eyes and extra furry feathers…I’m smitten!
Sir Clucksalot is designed by Ashley Parker who has a range of incredible crochet patterns available now on WeCrochet. This particular pattern is crocheted in Fable Fur using sizes E (3.5mm) and size I (5.5mm) crochet hooks.
Ashley classifies this as a beginner pattern and says it works up quickly. Some Brava Worsted Yarn in colorways Red and Canary were used for the comb, beak and feet and some safety eyes in black would add the perfect finishing touch.

Dwayne the Gorilla
Carolyne Brodie’s Shop on Lovecrafts is like a breath of fresh air. Her animal crochet patterns are, in a word, inspired, full of whimsy and magic and I found myself favoriting ALL of them!
Dwayne the Gorilla is one of the most popular patterns currently available. If you use a Size D (3.25mm) Crochet Hook, Dwayne will measure about 16″ tall when complete.
Carolyne recommends Dwayne the Gorilla as a pattern for advanced crocheters but reassures us that the instructions are easy to follow if you are experienced in crochet and/or amigurumi. The pattern itself includes photographs and Carolyne offers help to anyone in need of help or advice. Amazing!
Dwayne the Gorilla is created using Worsted Weight Yarn, a pair of 15mm safety eyes, optional 30mm joints, some stuffing and a tapestry needle. I love Mighty Stitch (80% Acrylic 20% Superwash Wool) in Ash and Oyster and Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice (100% Acrylic) in Silver Gray and Beige:
Two additional patterns that I couldn’t get enough of are Holly the Unicorn and Mini birds, both by Carolyne Brodie:
