There is a crocheted blanket that hangs over my favorite armchair in the living room. It is bright and colorful and warm and snuggly and when I’m wrapped up inside it on dark winter mornings I am reminded of what a gift handmade blankets are and how cold (literally) the world would be without them.
In this article, I’ve rounded up a list of gorgeous, warm and snuggly crochet blanket patterns. Scroll through all of the topics or pick and choose your favorites from the table of contents below and enjoy!

My TOP 10 Crochet Blanket Patterns
The Darling Blanket
by Heidi Wells
The Darling Blanket makes it to the top of my list this week because I am in love with the visual contrast between the laciness of this pattern and its wide, practical border. This stunning blanket pattern is designed by Heidi Wells and you can purchase it separately or as a part of Tucked in: Chic & Cozy Patterns ebook (or hard copy) which contains 6 spectacular crochet blanket patterns.
The Darling Blanket is designed in Wool of the Andes Tweed (80% Peruvian Highland Wool, 20% Donegal Tweed) – a yarn with gorgeous depth and richness. The colorway photographed is called “Down Heather” (a perfect colorway for blanket making, don’t you think?) and I’m tempted to crochet it in “Vineyard Heather”.

Painted Roses Blanket
by Sandra Paul
If you don’t know the designer Sandra Paul, well you’re in for a treat. Not only is she an exceptional crochet designer, but she also hosts a wonderful crochet podcast called Cherry Heart Podcast that’s listed as one of the top crochet podcasts of the year in my post: THE 17+ MOST POPULAR CROCHET PODCASTS OF 2021.
The Painted Roses Blanket is one of my favorite designs by Sandra. It’s designed to be a baby blanket, but I’d selfishly keep mine as a lap blanket, or make it larger for my sofa or bed.
The Painted Roses Blanket pattern includes details of color changes, layout information, pictures and help with special stitches. It is written using UK crochet terms and now includes crochet charts.
Sandra crocheted this blanket in Stylecraft Special DK Yarn in colorways Cloud Blue, Lipstick, Fondant, Black, Dandelion, Apple. Get your pattern and yarn HERE at Lovecrafts today!
African Violet Afghan
by Kristen Clay
The African Violet Afghan by Kristen Clay is crochet sophistication and beauty at its best. The 6-petal flower motifs are about 4.5″ in diameter and are joined as you go.
The African Violet Afghan is a combination of basic stitches as well as 3 special ones and there is a joining diagram included so we know exactly where to place each motif. The blanket is bordered with one simple round of pretty edging.
Designer Kristen Clay uses Swish Worsted Yarn (100% Fine Superwash Merino Wool) to create the African Violet Afghan and we can easily see why. The gorgeous drape the yarn provides, as well the beautifully balanced colorways (Honey – 11 skeins & Amethyst Heather – 14 skeins) a sheer delight. Cassette Afghan
by Lee Sartori
Okay, okay, whether you want to crochet this blanket or not, you have to admit that the Cassette Afghan by Lee Sartori is a showstopping design. I CANNOT believe that it’s a FREE DOWNLOAD!
The Cassette Afghan Pattern is written in 3 parts. According to the description, the cassette wheels are worked separately and then you join them together into rounds to create the cassette body. The cassette wheels (the white spokes) are appliqued on afterward.
To make this pattern even better, it’s crocheted in Mighty Stitch Bulky (80% Acrylic, 20% Superwash Wool) making for a much quicker (and less overwhelming) project! To achieve the same impact, stick with the designer’s original colorways: Black, White and Silver (8 skeins each); Canary, Mint, Pucker, Macaw, Gulfstream and Alfalfa (5 skeins each).

Herfst Crochet Blanket
Knitting with Chopsticks is very quickly becoming one of my favorite designers and these beginner-friendly crochet blanket patterns do not disappoint. The Herfst Crochet Blanket is my favorite of the 3 (although it was hard to pick just one!) and you can purchase and download it at KnitCrate.
The Herfst Crochet Blanket is described as an easy pattern by the designer and who reassures us that the pattern’s simple stitches and step by step pictures ensure that anyone can make this blanket. It features irregular stripes and a variety of textures as well as full explanations of the stitches puff stitch and bead stitch.
Knitting with Chopsticks recommends a size J/6mm/US10 crochet hook, and about 6 100g skeins of Royal Zeeman yarn (which is difficult to find at present). I LOVE Berroco Vintage (52% Acrylic 40% Wool 8% Nylon) and its gorgeous colorways and Paintbox Yarns Simply Aran (100% Acrylic) is a great value yarn with dozens upon dozens of colorways to choose from!

Baby Crochet Blanket Patterns
The handmade blankets that my children received when they were born are some of the most cherished items I keep in their memory boxes. The beautiful thing about a Baby Crochet Blanket is that you don’t need to worry about size or fit…just pick a pattern you love buy an extra soft yarn, and you’re halfway there!
These extra special Baby Crochet Blanket Patterns are guaranteed to wrap the baby in your life in warmth and love!
Spring Has Sprung
Spring has Sprung by Cute Crochet Makes is one of the loveliest baby crochet blanket patterns I have ever seen! The rabbit is crocheted using the Filet Crochet Pattern Technique and although the flowers look like applique, they’re actually crocheted right into the pattern!
The pattern itself uses US terminology and it consists of a 4 pages of written instructions and photos. There is also a 1 page chart and a larger 2 page chart for your reference. Cute Crochet Makes used Stylecraft Bellisima (100% Acrylic) and a 4mm hook to create this pattern. As of this post, it was difficult to find that yarn in stock but Stylecraft Special DK and Paintbox Yarns Simply DK are 2 fantastic substitute yarns and they come in a MASSIVE range of colors!
